Establishment
The Federal Government establishes the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua as a specialist institution for medical and health sciences education.
Infrastructure
Campus development begins: academic buildings, laboratories, the library, and construction of the University Teaching Hospital (FUMSFTH).
First academic session
The inaugural session opens with ten NUC-approved undergraduate programmes across four faculties.

A phased plan adds faculties, research centres, postgraduate programmes and the completed teaching hospital.
