Become a Student Ambassador
Ambassadors are the first members of the University community a prospective student meets. The scheme is open to current students in good academic standing who are willing to speak honestly about their course and campus life.
Voluntary
An unpaid volunteer role recognised formally by the University.
Trained first
No ambassador meets a prospective student before completing the training session.
Flexible hours
Scheduled around your lecture timetable. The role will not conflict with academic work.
Certificated
Service is certified and may be cited in applications for employment or further study.
Answering the questions a prospectus cannot.
Ambassadors work with prospective students only. The remit is to describe your own course and experience of the University accurately, and to direct enquiries beyond that to the office responsible.
Completed before your first engagement.
A short session delivered by the University covering four areas. Attendance is a condition of appointment.
Communicating with prospective students and parents
Tone, listening, and answering a parent's questions as well as a candidate's.
Key facts on courses, admissions and campus life
The ten programmes, the JAMB route, and what the University has published.
Handling a question you cannot answer
Saying so plainly, and knowing which office to refer the enquiry to.
Representing the University professionally
Conduct in person and online, and the standards expected of a representative.
Certification, training and professional access
The role is unpaid. What it carries instead is documentation and experience that transfer directly to employment.
Certificate of Service
Official certificate naming you as a University Student Ambassador.
Letter of reference
A University recommendation letter for employment or postgraduate study.
Professional training
Communication, public speaking and client engagement, delivered at no cost to you.
Access and networking
Priority access to open days and University events, alongside staff and alumni.
Transferable skills
Communication and public speaking practised on real enquiries, not in a classroom.
Institutional knowledge
A full briefing on the ten programmes, admissions and student services.
Who may apply
- Any currently registered student of the University.
- Good academic standing, with no outstanding disciplinary matter.
- Confident speaking about your own programme to candidates and their parents.
- Available to attend the training session in full before appointment.
Structured around lectures
