Authority is distributed between statutory offices and governing bodies, each established by the law creating the University. The principal officers and their current holders are listed on the management page.
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
As Visitor, the President holds supreme authority over the institution, appoints the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council, confirms the Vice-Chancellor, and conducts a visitation at least once every five years to ensure adherence to national education policy and standards.
The principal officers
Chancellor
The ceremonial head of the University, responsible for conferring degrees and representing the institution at formal occasions.
Pro-Chancellor
Chairs the Governing Council and oversees the implementation of University policies and strategic direction.
Vice-Chancellor
The principal academic and administrative officer, responsible for the day-to-day management of the University.
Registrar
Secretary to the Council and Senate, responsible for records, admissions and registry services.
Bursar
Manages University finances, budgeting, accounting, and financial planning and reporting.
University Librarian
Oversees the University library, targeting 1,500,000 volumes, and the management of digital resources.
The Governing Council.
The supreme policy body of the University, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and serving a four-year tenure. It ensures that accounts are audited annually and an annual report published.
