Tree-Planting Exercise: Staff and Students Plant 300 Seedlings Donated by TGas

The 300 seedlings, generously donated by TGas, were planted by staff and students at locations chosen for maximum environmental, aesthetic and functional benefit.
A tree-planting exercise was successfully conducted on Tuesday, 15 September 2026 as part of the University’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability, climate responsibility and the development of a greener, healthier and more resilient campus environment.
The exercise was made possible through the generous donation of 300 tree seedlings by TGas, a gesture for which the University expresses its sincere appreciation. The donation represents an important contribution to the University’s environmental sustainability initiatives and demonstrates the value of collaboration between the University and responsible corporate partners in addressing environmental challenges.
The exercise witnessed the active participation of a number of staff and students of the University, who came together to plant the seedlings at carefully selected locations across the campus. The planting sites were identified by the Urban and Regional Planning (URP) Unit in collaboration with the University Committee on Environmental Sustainability, with consideration given to areas where the trees would provide maximum environmental, aesthetic and functional benefits.
The seedlings were planted in strategic areas to contribute to campus beautification, improved air quality, provision of shade, reduction of heat, enhancement of the campus landscape and the promotion of biodiversity. The exercise also provides an opportunity to increase the University’s green cover and strengthen its long-term efforts towards creating a more environmentally sustainable campus.
Beyond the physical act of planting trees, the exercise provided a valuable platform for environmental awareness and community participation. The involvement of staff and students demonstrates that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility that requires collective action. By actively participating in the exercise, students in particular are being encouraged to develop a stronger sense of environmental stewardship and a lasting culture of caring for and protecting the natural environment.
The initiative is therefore not simply about planting 300 seedlings in a day; it is an investment in the future of the University and generations yet to come. With proper nurturing, watering and maintenance, the seedlings will grow into mature trees that will provide shade, improve the quality of the campus environment, enhance the aesthetic character of the University and contribute to climate-change mitigation.
